As a junior, Mitchell Burton soared 22 feet, 6¾ inches in the long jump Saturday (June 4, 2016), placing fifth in the event and leading the Columbus North boys track team to a tie for 46th place in the IHSAA State Meet.

A 6-3, 190-pound running back, rushed for 1,698 yards and 22 touchdowns to pace the Bull Dogs’ attack in 2016. The yardage total was fourth in CNHS single-season history and his 25 overall TDs, including two on receptions and one on a return, was a CN single-season record. Burton’s career rushing total of 3,992 is the second best in school annals, behind only 4,233 by Alex Turner in 2005-07. Burton’s 55 career touchdowns are a school record.
